Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Pure Water for the World Board of Directors and staff, we say “Thank you” for your support. During the past year, we accomplished much, and these strides forward were possible thanks to your generosity.

      In Haiti, Pure Water has
  1. Delivered water to 80,000 people each and every day, for months following the earthquake.
  2. Provided teacher training to over 1,000 teachers.
  3. Provided clean water and hygiene education to over 500 schools serving over 10,000 students.
  4. Received and installed two “ultra filters” from The Dow Chemical Company, each providing up to 10,000 gallons of safe drinking water a day.
  5. Launched a rainwater harvesting project for 20 schools.

      In Honduras, Pure Water has
  1. Provided clean water, sanitation and education to 645 households.
  2. Continued the partnership with UNICEF in remote villages along the Nicaraguan border.
  3. Launched a critical follow-up monitoring program and a Water Expertise Training Center.
  4. Continued and improved our sanitation program, and so much more!

We do not expect to hear from everyone we impact, but when we do, it makes our work all the more important and meaningful. Two stories out of many stand out.

At a filter dedication for a hospital in Port au Prince, dignitaries from the Haitian and US governments, health organizations, school officials and others were in attendance. As typical with dedications, there were a number of speeches, yet a 6 year-old girl stole the show.  Malina Dessalines stood on a chair with her father holding the microphone, and spoke to the assembled group.  Malina thanked Pure Water and Dow for their donation by saying, “With safe drinking water, I will be no longer sick.”

In Honduras, health officials and community leaders of the village of Nueva Victoria asked for help because two young children had died of dehydration caused by diarrhea. The culprits were contaminated drinking water and living far from a health clinic.  After water testing, we found that the water contained innumerable fecal coli forms that explained mothers’ complaints of their children having diarrhea and stomach pains. Pure Water, thanks to our donors, was able to move quickly and take action.

Life-affirming stories like these are possible because of your donation. Again, thank you for your continued support of Pure Water for the World.

With thanks and appreciation,
